Vitaly Sawyna, M.D., FACS

Dr. Sawyna graduated from Muhlenberg College with a degree in chemistry and completed his medical training at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. During medical school, he spent two years conducting muscle ultra-structure, electronmicroscopic, and biochemical research in the Department of Anatomy. Upon graduation from medical school, Dr. Sawyna was given the Lange Medical Publications Award.

Dr. Sawyna completed his specialty surgery training at Lehigh Valley Hospital and is licensed in the States of Pennsylvania and Florida. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the American Society of Abdominal Surgeons, and a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Board certifications include the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Abdominal Surgery. He is a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgery and is a Center of Excellence bariatric surgeon. Additionally, Dr. Sawyna is contracted as a surgical trainer for single incisional laparoscopic surgery (SILS).

Dr. Sawyna currently serves as Chief of Surgery and Director of Bariatric Surgery at Westfield Hospital in Allentown, Palmerton Hospital, and Gnaden-Huetten Hospital, and serves as Co-Director of Bariatrics at Sacred Heart Hospital.

As an avocation, Dr. Sawyna is an instrument rated pilot and a designated FAA aviation medical examiner.


David Russo, M.D., FACS

Dr. Russo is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons.

He was born in Bethlehem, PA and attended Lehigh University for his undergraduate studies. After college he attended medical school at Hahneman University in Philadelphia, PA, which is now Drexel University. He finished a five year post graduate surgical residency at Monmouth Medical Center and Jersey Shore Medical Center. Following his training he moved back to Pennsylvania because of strong family ties where he started his practice of general surgery.

It was this decade that was considered the dawn of laparoscopy and Dr. Russo continued to further his training with a particular interest in bariatric surgey. He now brings twenty years of experience to helping people improve the quality of their lives
